Más canciones con historia. Esta vez, uno de mis temas preferidos de Radiohead: Nude. Una de las canciones más evocadoras de su, hasta el momento, último disco.

Jilted John
Going Steady 7″ (1978)
I’ve been going out with a girl
Her name is Julie
But last night she said to me
When we were watching telly
This is what she said
She said, listen John, I love you
But there’s this bloke I fancy
I don’t want to two time you
So it’s the end for you and me
Who’s this bloke?, I asked her
Gordon, she replied
Not that puff, I said dismayed
Yes, but he’s no puff, she cried
He’s more of a man than you’ll ever be
Here we go, two three four
I was so upset that I cried
All the way to the chip shop
When I came out there was Gordon
Standing at the bus stop
And guess who was with him?
Yeah, Julie
And they were both laughing at me
Oh, she is cruel and heartless
To pack me for Gordon
Just cause he’s better looking than me
Just cause he’s cool and trendy
But I know he’s a moron
Gordon is a moron
Gordon is a moron
Gordon is a moron
Here we go, two three four
Oh she’s a slag and he’s a creep
She’s a tart, he’s very cheap
She is a slut, he thinks he’s tough
She is a bitch, he is a puff
Yeah yeah, it’s not fair
Yeah yeah, it’s not fair
I’m so upset
I’m so upset, I’m so upset, yeah yeah
I ought to smash his face in
Yeah, but he’s bigger than me, ain’t he?
I know, I’ll get my mate Barry to hit him, he’d flatten him
Yeah, but Barry’s a mate of Gordon’s, ain’t he?
Oh well, I don’t care
I don’t care
I don’t care
Cause she’s a slag and he’s a creep
She’s a tart, he’s very cheap
She is a slut, he thinks he’s tough…
Canciones con historia (XI): Good Morning, Captain

Slint
Spiderland (1991)
Let me in, the voice cried softly
From outside the wooden door
Scattered remnants of the ship could be seen in the distance
Blood stained the icy wall of the shore
I’m the only one left, the storm took them all
He managed as he tried to stand
The tears ran down his face
Please, it’s cold
When he woke, there was no trace of the ship
Only the dawn was left behind by the storm
He felt the creaking of the stairs beneath him
That rose, from the sea, to the door
There was a sound at the window then
The captain started, his breath was still
Slowly, he turned
From behind the edge of the windowsill
There appeared the delicate hand of a child
His face was flush and timid
He stared at the captain through frightened eyes
The captain reached for something to hold on to
Help me, he whispered, as he rose slowly to his feet
The boy’s face went pale
He recognized the sound
Silently, he pulled down the shade against the shadow
Lost in the doorstep of the empty house
I’m trying to find my way home
I’m sorry…
…and I miss you
I miss you
I’ve grown taller now
I want the police to be notified
I’ll make it up to you
I swear, I’ll make it up to you
I miss you
Canciones con historia (X): Beyond Belief
marzo 21st, 2010
Elvis Costello & the Attractions
Imperial Bedroom (1982)
History repeats the old conceits
The glib replies, the same defeats
Keep your finger on important issues
With crocodile tears and a pocketful of tissues
I’m just the oily slick
On the windup world of the nervous tick
In a very fashionable hovel
I hang around dying to be tortured
You’ll never be alone in the bone orchard
This battle with the bottle is nothing so novel
So in this almost empty gin palace
Through a two-way looking glass
You see your Alice
You know she has no sense
For all your jealousy
In a sense she still smiles very sweetly
Charged with insults and flattery
Her body moves with malice
Do you have to be so cruel to be callous
And now you find you fit this identikit completely
You say you have no secrets
Then leave discreetly
I might make it California’s fault
Be locked in Geneva’s deepest vault
Just like the canals of Mars and the Great Barrier Reef
I come to you beyond belief
My hands were clammy and cunning
She’s been suitably stunning
But I know there’s not a hope in Hades
All the laddies cat call and wolf whistle
So-called gentlemen and ladies
Dog fight like rose and thistle
I’ve got a feeling
I’m gonna get a lot of grief
Once it seemed so appealing
Now I am beyond belief
Canciones con historia (IX): Our Lips Are Sealed
marzo 20th, 2010
Fun Boy Three
Waiting (1983)
Can you hear them? Talking about us
Telling lies, is that a surprise?
Can you see them? See right through them?
They have no shield, nothing must be revealed
It doesn’t matter what they say, no one listens anyway
Our lips are sealed
There’s a weapon that we can use in our defense, silence
Well just look at them, look right through them
That’s when they disappear, that’s when we lose the fear
It doesn’t matter what they say, in the jealous games people play
Our lips are sealed
It doesn’t matter what they say, no one’s listening anyway
Our lips are sealed
Hush, my darling, don’t you cry
Guardian angel, forget their lies
Can you hear them? Talking about us
Telling lies, well that’s no surprise
Can you see them? See right through them?
They have no shield, nothing must be revealed
It doesn’t matter what they say, in the jealous games people play
Our lips are sealed
Pay no mind to what they say, it doesn’t matter anyway
Our lips are sealed
Our lips are sealed
Our lips are sealed
Canciones con historia (VI): The Turn of a Friendly Card
The Turn of a Friendly Card.
